How To Choose The Best Style For Your Home Or Business

Before choosing a mail slot it is important to understand the basic functioning behind it. During the early days of mail delivery the postman would deliver mail to each home and needed to wait for residents to answer the door to receive letters. The amount of time this took would significantly slow down the postman’s ability to reach multiple houses in a timely fashion during the day and thus slow down the overall efficiency of the mail delivery. The mail slot was created as a means for delivery to still occur even when residents were not home or simply unable to answer the door.

Mail slots vary widely however and selecting a mail slot that is not only architecturally consistent with the style of your home but also meets your needs for mail delivery is important. There are many factors to consider when selecting a new mail slot that will be covered in this article.

Size Matters!

Think that any size slot will work? Think again. Review the type of mail you receive and consider the condition you would like to receive it in. Magazines and large envelopes can be particularly problematic if they need to be shoved into a small mail slot- they can be torn or damaged by the force required to fit them through a small mail slot.

Standard mail slots range in size but a good choice (depending on the type of mail you receive) is anywhere from 9 to 13 inches. Larger mail slots are more appropriate in homes and businesses that receive large envelopes and magazines frequently.

Single or Double Flap?

Many mail slots have a single or double flap option available and this can seem slightly confusing. Most mail slots will have a front flap and an interior back plate – this means when the flap is lifted there will be a hole in the door leading directly through to the entryway with no barrier to cover it.

A double flap mail slot means there is a flap on both sides of the door. This option is a good choice when a door is frequently exposed weather elements such as rain or snow or as simply a way to ensure privacy.

What’s a good Height?

Mail slots are traditionally installed on the lower half of the door but installing a mail slot too close to the base of the door can be problematic for the mail carrier to delivery items easily. Take into account that your mail carrier has a long route and needs to be able to find your mail slot quickly. Installing the slot about waist height or higher is a good rule of thumb for most mail slots.

What is a Sleeve?

A sleeve is used most frequently in hollow doors or to cover the cut out in a solid door. It is a thin piece of metal that is the size of the hole and fits between the front and rear plates of the mail slot inside the door. Not all sleeves are the same size so choose carefully.

Mounting Questions?

Depending on the mail slot it may use front mounting wood screws or longer rear mounting screws. Thicker or thinner screws may require special or custom length screws for proper installation. Ask a contractor to assist you if you are unsure about cutting the hole for your door.

Review

Choose a high quality mail slot (solid brass construction is best) and pay attention to key factors such as size and installation height. If you are replacing an older mail slot it is especially important to choose a mail slot that will be compatible in size with the original hole. Overall size and hole size are two separate measurements and should be taken into account when selecting a new mail slot.

Coordinate your new mail slot with your existing hardware or create a new entryway set with compatible designs. A mail slot can be plain or extremely ornate – the choice is entirely up to you! Select a finish that is the same or similar to any existing hardware to ensure to complete look for your front door.

Although the use of mail slots has significantly decreased over the past century it can still be seen in many historical and smaller towns. It is a convenient way to receive mail if door to door service is still used in that area or simply a wonderful decorative touch for the front door in general.

10 Home Renovations That Offer the Best return on Investment

If you are planning of reselling your Pennsylvania home, it is time to start sprucing it up. It might seem like a costly venture, but a recent report by National Association of Realtors® (NAR) shows this is one of the best real estate investment opportunities for homeowners with an average ROI of 60%. To get the highest value for your property, you need to identify the top remodeling projects that will give you the best ROI.

Here are some ideas:

Kitchen Rules

Most people spend time in the kitchen and it is a focal area that a homebuyer will be looking at. During an open house, most buyers make a beeline for the cooking space. You need to have nice stainless steel appliances, modern cabinetry, energy efficient appliances and smart kitchen tops to win a bargaining hand during negotiations.

Flooring

When an investor comes to your home, they will instantly look at the floor and if it is chipped and faded you will not get a good deal. There are myriad flooring options to choose from, but always stay away from the cheap laminate products because keen buyers will smell this out. Real-wood floors are big winners but you can also go for high quality engineered products.

Baths

This is a no-brainer for every homeowner; people love to spend a relaxing moment in their baths and no one wants to immediately start refurbishing after moving in.Consider lighting, marble tops, custom showers, décor and the floors to spruce up the room.

Attic Bedrooms

If you have this space at your home, make sure you spruce it because NAR® reckons you will recoup 72% on the project costs.

Wall Siding

For older homes, this is one of the most suave remodeling projects for a home resale. There are myriad wall siding products to choose from including vinyl, fiber-cement and wood among others.

Energy Efficient Windows and Doors

The modern real estate investor is very conscious and if you have invested in green living solutions such as these they will be ready to deal. They know there are savings to enjoy and many more benefits when they buy.

Deck and Patios Additions

Remodeling magazine reports that these additions can easily recoup 72% on investment, which is a big win for you. They give your home a touch of grandeur that buyers crave.

HVAC Replacement

This is a unique way of priming your property for a quick resale and high ROI. You will not only be looking at rebates, but also energy savings after the project.

Lighting

You don’t have to flood your home with new lights but creative lighting including sunroom additions, recessed kitchen lights and dimmer switches will make your indoor quite arresting.

Basement Remodel

This neglected space can be turned into an alluring space through simple waterproofing and planning techniques. If buyers realize they have one more finished room with an egress window for natural light, you can bet you will get good ROI on your renovation.

Home Brewing Options In Saving Money

Home brewing is a method of making beer at home. If you have ever tried a few different types beer while you are at a party or while you are celebrating life, you will notice that some are heavy and some are light. You should also remember that some are dark and others are light and clear, while some are bitter, and some are not. A home brewing kit is going to give you the ability to make and try your own beer so you can find that one special taste you love.

When can you use the home brewing systems?

You can use a home brewing system to make beer for a summer party, for a small get together or you can use the home brewing system just to have fun and keep you own brand of beer on the shelf in your home. Making beer at home will be easy as you follow the directions and the instructions that are included in any home brewing kit. As you experiment, you should also be writing down everything you do step by step, as you create different types of beer.

As you continue writing down what you do, and any variations in what you do, you will be able to replicate that process for the final beer that you do like the taste of. Remember, every variations, every tiny fraction of difference in measuring, in how long you boil, or even what type of container you are using is going to make a difference in the final taste of the product you are enjoying.

Where are you going to store the beer?

Storing your beer is actually going to be an easy part of making the beer! I know you are thinking that you have to store all the beer that you make in a refrigerator but actually, that is not the case. You can store the beer in the buckets (that are sealed) that you made the beer in. As the beer is sealed tight is going to stop fermenting and the beer will stay good until you open it. When you are ready to open that bucket and put it into glasses or containers so it gets cold you will need to put some type of lid on the beer while it gets cold to prevent it from getting flat tasting. Flat beer is worse than warm beer to many people are the world.

By brewing your own brand of beer, you are going to be able to save up to fifty percent of the cost of buying beer from a store. If you are having a large party that can be a huge, overall savings if you just think about it!

Making your own beer really is fun. You can make beer, while your friends are over for the day, or you can make a batch of beer a few nights before that big party, you are going to attend. One thing is for sure, when you make your own beer, you will know exactly how much you have, and that you are not going to run out. If you store beer in the basement, where it is going to ferment and cool at the same time, you are always going to be prepared for visitors. Now it is time to get busy and start making your first batch.

Make Money From Home, Make The Economy Stronger

Those who make money from home make the economy stronger by having more money to spend and by building the businesses whose products and services they help to sell. It costs nothing to become an affiliate marketer for companies because you are helping them build their business. Why would they charge you to help them. That would make no sense, would it.

It is the pay it forward principle

If you give, you are given more to give. According to my beliefs, God facilitates that, but it works for many who do not believe as I do, just the same. I use article marketing to promote businesses including one that helps article marketers develop skills necessary to grow their businesses. There is no fear that you will learn a lot and congest the field so I have trouble competing. The Internet community is so huge and the tools and methods exist to find those waters that have not been heavily fished, so someone starting now is not at such a disadvantage.

To efficiently make money from home, make the success of others your goal

When you write articles to promote business and make money, you are writing for three: you are writing for the business that wants to sell its products and services; you are writing for yourself, hoping to make some money and get your message out there, and you are writing for your readers, who have no interest up front in either you or your business partner making money. The reader is not the victim. You are not there to hornswoggle someone, deceive him or her, or in any way, or force the reader to read a high pressure sales pitch.

Nuts and Bolts

Starting out, I would recommend you go to Clickbank and set up an account. When you are in, you are an affiliate for thousands of businesses and products. Go to “marketplace” and see if you can find something that intrigues you or agrees with your concept of something you would like to promote. I would recommend that when you consider a product to promote, that you think of a reason a small group of possible clients or customers will be “hungry” for it.

Feed the Hunger

I am targeting people who want to make money from home, make money off the Internet, telecommute, however you want to put it, but mean to do it without necessarily doing the work for someone else (i.e. having a boss). This is a huge group of people and not a niche per se, but through keywords I am attempting to reach a certain segment of them.

Who needs it?

If, for instance, you have decided to promote a weight loss product, you have chosen a very large industry and it is very easy for your voice to be lost in the roar of the crowd. If you write an article on “how to lose weight,” I can virtually guarantee you are not going to make a dime. If you narrow it down, though, and target people who have to lose weight because they have just been told they are borderline diabetic, or they must lose weight in order to become pregnant, or they have to lose weight to save what remains of their furniture, this would constitute what we call a niche – a small segment of a larger market. If you direct your writings and your website to that small group of people, you will indeed make money from home, make your life better, and make your job irrelevant.

How do you make money from home, make your computer a cash machine, and make out like a bandit?

There are several steps involved, including as already mentioned, choosing a product, choosing a niche, and making up a website, but of those, two are free and the third is cheap (well, some can be expensive). There is much more and it can seem overwhelming, but it does work much better if you have a support structure of others doing the same thing from whom you can get answers to your questions and directions as to what to do next.

In short, there is no free lunch, but for money from home, make sure you are ready to put in the work and plug into a community of others, like yourself, who are building a life on a shoestring budget.

Bedroom Makeovers

Discover how to inexpensively turn your bedroom into a soul-soothing refuge.

colors

White is the ideal color

for a relaxing bedroom; it gives off an aura of peace and purity and defuses visual tension. An all-white or neutral color scheme also makes a room look bigger.

Other soothing shades

are buff, beige, biscuit, or soft shades of blue, green, yellow, gray and pink. If you suffer from insomnia, choose light violet or blue—colors said to induce calm and lower blood pressure.

Contrast sheets in calming colors with unusual textures

to prevent your sleeping space from appearing too bland. Throw a sumptuous satin comforter over stark white sheets or combine delicately detailed fabrics such as lace and eyelet with more robust ones like piqué and wool.

Create a haven of romance

around a dove-white bed by adding floaty drapes falling from a ceiling-attached corona.

bed & bedding

Invest in a decent mattress

every ten years. A supportive, well-cushioned mattress is essential to a good night’s rest. Also, buy the best pillows to support your head and neck.

Choose high-quality bed linens

in natural fibers and colors. For allergy-free nights, stay clear of permanent press sheets (treated with formaldehyde and other toxic chemicals) and choose 100 percent organically grown, 100 percent cotton or cotton kapok, a resilient lightweight fiber harvested from silk. Egyptian cotton is a less expensive alternative to pure linen. For a soft silky feel, look for the highest thread count.

Contrast alpaca, burlap, and linen tones

with wooden beds to promote a reassuring, grounded feel. Pick from brushed cotton, cashmere, suede, angora, or mohair.

Experiment with flashes of color and unexpected style

by layering bedding with shawls, antique linens, tablecloths, saris, etc.

lighting

Maximize natural light

and get energized by the morning sun by situating your bedroom to face east, if possible. Supplement with artificial lighting such as gently glowing bedside lamps.

Opt for blinds and curtains

made from light-filtering fabric such as voile to avoid harsh glare.

Mix specific-task and ambient lighting

to create an intimate, relaxing glow. Add dimmer switches to existing fixtures, table lamps for direct illumination and a small book light for reading in bed. Lamps with colored shades cast a therapeutic glow; try basking in blue-tinged light to ease insomnia.

Experiment with indirect lighting

that has a two-tone effect—creating pools of warmth on walls and ceilings while leaving other areas mysteriously shadowy.

storage

Clear out all clutter

and do everything you can to separate your work space from your sleeping area. If you must have a desk in your bedroom, separate by using screens or tall ficus plants.

Investigate unused storage space:

under your bed; in a corner surrounded by a screen; or build floor-to-ceiling storage with push-catch doors for the look of custom cabinetry. Don’t forget the back of closet doors– nylon or canvas shoe organizers can be used for all sorts of things, from doll clothes to hats and mittens.

Invest in an antique trunk

(search flea markets) to store linens and other sundries at the base of your bed.

For an inventive clothes rack,

hang a painted broomstick on two lengths of sturdy string from ceiling hooks and use as a clothes rod.

feng shui

Locate the master bedroom

as far away from the front door as possible.

Avoid placing your bed

under a window: this disrupts the energies around you and can cause disturbed sleep. Also, make sure you can easily see the door when seated in bed.

Do not place a mirror

on a wall that reflects the door as this dissipates energy.

Balance straight lines

with curves to soften the technological edge.

Place furnishings

in an octagonal arrangement with the bed at one corner.

Home-buying Parameters

he price range maybe the major factor in buying a property but other parameters for home-buying also play a key role. Though budget limits the variety but that does not mean that one should compromise on choice. The main strictures that one keeps in mind are:

Location and Neighbourhood

The first criterion for anybody purchasing a new house is location. Be it the suburbs, the country side or the city, one should only decide after evaluation all the pros and cons. For example, the suburbs and the country side are less expensive. The property may have huge acres of beautiful land ideal for farm-houses. Since it is located by a small town, the livelihood is also simple. The negative is the long drives especially if the workplace is far off.

The city properties may be chic and stylish with the entertainment and workplace nearby; the urban lifestyle can prove to be hectic. Traffic jams and higher crime rates deter many.

Types of homes

The next factor that affects the decision is the type of home that one wants. From the expensive condos and penthouses, to the more convenient single family flats, the choices are limitless. While the urban condos and penthouses are expensive, they are usually situated in high security apartments and usually are maintenance free. The single family apartments are private and but requires more maintenance. The other factor that affects house buying is the level of the apartment. Some may prefer the ground level and some the duplex.

The specifications inside the house

Different people have different requirement for the interiors like the number of bedrooms and bathrooms, square footage and the bonus rooms etc. The number of rooms and bathrooms needed by the customer all play an equally important. Big families need more rooms and a couple will only need two room house or apartment.

The more number of rooms means more carpet area and hence more costly. However, the square feet rating also depends on the location of the property.

Garages

The garages add to the cost of the property. Garages become a liability when there are no prospects of buying a vehicle in the long term.

Other Facilities

The additional factors like nearness to the local school and hospitals also affect the price of the property. Plumbing, electrical, heating and cooling amenities conditions also determine the choice of the purchasers. Another thing that most new home buyers keep in mind is the repair expenses that they have to undertake after moving in. The maintenance of the house is another aspect that affects the prospective client’s decision.

A property should be purchased only after careful evaluation and only when it meets all the requirements. The Pure Residential Company believes in providing traditional services however, with a modern outlook. Estate agents of Norfolk, they make sure that every property receives the maximum exposure with their advanced marketing techniques. Ideal organisation for buying and selling of properties, Pure Lettings promises to deliver the best.

How To Turn Your Bedroom Into Your Own Personal Hit Factory

The home studio is becoming more and more of an ubiquitous setting these days for aspiring music producers; believe it or not, the tough economy that we are facing has touched even the music industry, and the way things operated once upon a time will no longer fly, being that the recording budgets of today, can’t even halfway compare to the astronomical budgets of years ago.

Audio professionals are being forced to become a little more resourceful and smarter with their recording efforts, but it doesn’t matter, because there are so many different options that one could choose to create their own productions from their own home. Major studio settings are no longer necessary to make quality productions, you can get it done with nothing more than a laptop and some headphones.

But the good thing about it is, that for those who are attempting to make hip hop beats, the opportunities are even greater than ever before. Hey, we have always been able to persevere through them hard times, those of us within the hip hop culture that is; so dealing with next to nothing budgets and facing adversity is pretty much second nature to us. Hip hop producers are known for making something out of nothing!

The availability of Pro Tools and similar music production software to the average consumer has leveled the playing field whereas anyone with a few hundred dollars available can now record and create professional quality audio productions that would rival any major studio production, with the knowledge of how to do so that is. Once you get your hands on the necessary equipment, and read up on some topics customary to producing hip hop music such as sampling, cutting and scratching records, playing keys, and audio engineering, you too will be well on your way to producing with the likes of 9th Wonder or Chase N Cashe; so without further adieu, let me share with you how you too can make hip hop beats from the comfort of your own home.

You’re Gonna Need A Good Computer

And not the one that’s been sitting in the corner of your living room for the past three years. Sadly enough, even the computers that are gonna be on sale this weekend will be obsolete by next weekend, especially if you’re talking about Windows operating systems.

Your computer will be the hub, the brains of your operation, so you will want the best computer that you can possibly afford. These days, a quad core processor with 4 gigs of ram is the bare minimum that you would want to go with to operate your system efficiently; most soft synths and audio recording software will have these very specs listed on their boxes as the minimum requirements to ensure a smooth user experience.

The argument as to whether or not you should choose a Mac or a PC and which is better for audio production is an argument that has been going on for YEARS within the audio recording industry; with no immediate ending to that argument in sight any time soon. My take on the argument is that if you can afford a Mac, go with one, because Macs are class compliant with the majority of all audio recording peripherals on the market today, meaning that you can just plug the devices into your USB port on your Mac, and they will work without any further installations, purchases, or tweaks.

With recording on a PC, you can almost guarantee that you will have to search for drivers and make difficult tweaks within your operating system to get your software to work correctly, not to mention having to turn off Wi-Fi settings and adding anti-virus software so that you can fight off the thousands of viruses out there waiting to attack your system whenever you do need to get online. These annoyances are just non-factors with Apple computers, so for the best user experience and the lack of having to buy stock in Excedrine Migraine pills, I chose to go with Mac computers for my home and mobile recording setups. I couldn’t be happier, and i’ll never buy a PC for recording.

Now, this is not to say that you shouldn’t use a PC for your recording needs, you need to use whatever you can afford. Just try your best to stick to the aforementioned specs, and be prepared to do some research. You and Google are about to become great friends as you prepare to install your software applications. The bright side to this is, a comparable PC to a Mac system with similar specs will more than likely be $500-600 cheaper. So take those things into consideration, and make a choice as to what would be best for your situation.

Choose an Audio/Midi Sequencing Application, aka DAW (Digital Audio Workstation)

You have Logic Studio(Mac Only), Pro Tools, Propellerheads Reason, Cubase, Sonar (PC Only), Ableton Live, and MOTU Digital Performer (Mac Only). These are all digital audio workstations, which would be the house that you would be building upon the foundation that you chose within your computer. Ultimately, whichever computer platform you choose could ultimately drive which software choice you are to choose, so think on this one.

Many hip hop producers tend to lean towards Propellerheads Reason, Pro Tools, Logic Studio, or Ableton Live for their recording and production setups. Also one that I did not mention, FL Studio, is very popular amongst hip hop producers. Myself, I use Reason almost exclusively, as Reason is now complete with audio recording and mixing, where with all of the other applications, you could already record audio. Reason was pretty much a studio rack in software form, complete with synths, drum machines, sequencing, and audio effects like reverbs, delays and compressors. With Reason, I don’t need anything else.

I have Pro Tools, Logic Studio, and Ableton Live as well within my personal studio setup, and I use them whenever I get the urge. But it’s not necessary, as Reason is complete with everything that I need to produce complete hip hop productions. You can download the demo for Reason and all of the other DAW’s that I mentioned by going to their respective websites, from there see which one will be the right fir for you and your needs and your workflow.

A MIDI Keyboard Will Be Next

You will need a MIDI keyboard to control your softsynths. A softsynth is a software version of a keyboard synthesizer, MIDI is the musical instrument digital interface in which control commands are sent to the musical instrument/softsynth to tell it which notes are being played, how hard or how soft, and how long each note is being held. Without a MIDI keyboard, you might have a hard time trying to play chords with ASDF computer keys! So get yourself a nice lil’ MIDI keyboard, 49 keys at least. Any brand will do the trick, so you can’t really go wrong here.

Get Yourself Some Good Headphones and Skip the Confusion

A good set of headphones will be detrimental to your audio production efforts, because as a bedroom music producer, more than likely your room does not have the correct and accurate acoustics to accurately mix audio projects with overcompensating for something in your mix. And soundproofing your room and trying to add Auralex foam will become expensive and time consuming, so just skip all that and buy some good headphones for audio mixing. You want a pair of headphones that will give you a flat response and the best possible representation of the full audio spectrum as possible, the Beyer Dynamic DT 770s are great choices for good audio headphones. You get crystal clear highs and deep lows, with a tight midrange unlike anything I have ever heard before in a pair of headphones. Ultimately you should choose the best that you can afford, but since I have the space to make a recommendation, I think that you will be pleased with the DT 770’s.

Once you have the computer, your DAW, MIDI Keyboard, and some headphones, you’re ready to get it. Those are the bare necessity tools that every hip hop producer will need to compete in the industry and make the type of beats that you hear on the radio, there is no right or wrong choice here, because ultimately, it will be your talent and your drive that will propel you to the top of the game.

Reading up on and studying hip hop producers, learning piano scales and melodies, reading books on mixing audio, and collecting records and samples are all things that you will need to do as well to help yourself become a more complete and efficient music producer. If you can collaborate with other beatmakers or producers in your area, and find a music mentor even if possible. Having someone who has already done or can do what you’re trying to get into will help to cut your learning curve in half literally.

I hope that I have given you some insight on what will be necessary to create hip hop music, and i’ll be back giving you more info on the topic of creating beats and producing music as well; I love doing this! Hip hop is what I do, and soon it will be what you do too. It’s in you, I already see that you’re winning… Better Beats Ahead.

Fun Ways To Exercise At Home

There are multiple ways to exercise that are fun and inexpensive that you can do at home. Gym memberships need not apply. I’m not a huge fan of going to the gym and working out. I’ve come up with some fun ways to exercise at home. Without throwing out statistics and percentages, I bet it is safe to say that most people don’t exercise. We all have our jobs, families, and other responsibilities that allow us to make that excuse of “I don’t have time.” But you can make time for exercise and have fun in the process.

There are many activities you can do without spending a lot of money. Grab a water bottle, your walking shoes and hit the pavement. Walking is a great form of exercise. You can take along a camera and do some still shots of the local park, shoreline, or city walk Take in the scenery while you are exercising. Sounds fun right? How about getting some friends together and setting up some walking time. You can talk and have some down time while you’re, you guessed it, “exercising.”

If you are like me, you have a bike that is just hanging in the garage with no riders. How about getting that bike out and riding some laps around the neighborhood. Get your heart beat going and burn off those calories from that hot fudge sundae you had earlier. If you don’t have a bike, that’s OK too.

Do you have children? Why not get them involved. Are they video game’olics? There are some really good interactive games on the market that you can buy to promote physical activity and get them off the couch and on their feet. There are so many fun ways to exercise at home.

If the weather is nice, plan an outside activity with them. Women, men, boys and girls, we all want to stay healthy and are looking for fun ways to exercise at home. We don’t want the hassle of having to pay a gym membership fee or get scrutinized in public when you incorrectly do a lunge.

We need to start being “active”. So many of us have lost our desire to work out and keep our bodies in shape. We digress because of our everyday stress from our jobs and other events going on in our lives. What’s the point in exercise if you can’t make it fun? Whether you are married, single, divorced, or widowed, exercise should be a part of all our lives. Whatever your situation is, take some time to think about fun ways to exercise at home.

No matter your preference, exercise can be fun and shouldn’t be a negative aspect of your daily routine. Develop some goals for yourself and your family. Write those goals down and set up times during the week to achieve these goals. You don’t have to be a bodybuilder or a super model. You want to promote a healthy way of living for yourself, your children, your family, and your friends. Take a lead role in your neighborhood and develop a neighborhood exercise program; but remember to make it fun!
